Data Tags functionality allows for assets across the subscription to be grouped based on their attributes instead of being based on their location.
Dynamic vs Static
Data Tags can either be dynamic or static to determine whether they are attached to an asset or not.
Dynamic
Dynamic Data Tags specify one or many search criteria for locating assets including by the asset's description, type, make, model or serial. For example, creating a tag called 'Toasters' which looks for the description of Toaster will automatically apply the tag to all assets in the subscription which match this description.
Data Tag Hierarchy
Data Tags also have a hierarchy whereby the lower data tags match assets within the parent. Using the above example of Toasters, if you created a child data tag called 'Acme Toasters' with a search criteria on the make 'Acme', all the Toasters of that make would receive the lower level tag as well.
Static
Data Tags can also be manually applied to an asset by assigning the data tag directly. For example, creating a data tag called 'Critical Operations' and then assigning the appropriate assets allows for a simple way to then view all those important assets in one place regardless of their location.
Functions
The following functions are possible with data tags
- Generating reports with the assets of a certain Data Tag (as opposed to running reports by location hierarchy)
- Setting up default options for assets that match a Data Tag e.g. "Toasters" should be re tested every 12 months
